Like most Bamiléké chiefdoms, the Bafou group was formed over a long history marked by wars and territorial conquests. Oral tradition tells us that it was the hunter Tala, from Baleveng, who founded this chiefdom around the 16th century. “Bafou” means “the people who seek, who search, who accept nothing without understanding its substance”. The creation of his heritage hut is the result of a work of reconstitution, as the chiefdom suffered from the looting and destruction of its heritage during the independence struggles. The exhibition, which focuses on the theme of totemism, plunges visitors into a world where the boundary between mysticism and reality is blurred. Around the chiefdom, there are numerous sites to discover on a hike, such as Lekouet Sessa at 1625 m, or the sacred cave of Méboukem, known as a traditional place of worship nestling on the side of Mount Sessa.
