Heritage box of Bamougoum: The Calabashes of the Chiefdom

Promoting and enhancing the culture of the Bamougoum people. This is the main objective of the Bamougoum heritage hut, whose theme is « Les calebasses des chefferies ». Bamougoum is a chiefdom located in the Bafoussam III district, and is considered one of the main calabash production centers in the Grassfields.

The museum offers an original presentation of the calabash, an object with cultural, cultic and everyday uses. Around a hundred calabashes are on display, the most prestigious of which are decorated with pearls, cowries or traditional Ndop fabric.

In 2022, the chiefdom lent objects for the exhibition « On the Chieftaincy Route of Cameroon ». These objects were returned to their rightful place at the end of the exhibition.
