West Cameroon, otherwise known as Grassfields, is an area where mountain peoples are grouped around two major tribes, the Bamiléké and the Bamoums, whose events occupy a very important place in their traditional culture.
A real element of cohesion and gathering, each event represents for the peoples of the mountain region a way of expressing their identities through cultural, religious, playful and entertaining ceremonies or even entrepreneurial. It is the region where there is the greatest number of cultural and traditional festivals in Cameroon, generally organized by the traditional chieftaincies around a specific theme. These are great moments of gathering, sharing and commemoration of the culture between the populations of a grouping. Ritual dances and songs are multiplied with very particular meanings.
Moreover, one cannot talk about cultural events in West Cameroon without mentioning the funerals which constitute a strong element of the identity of the people of the region. They take place in the form of funerary ceremonies of homage to the deceased and to the ancestors which take place every year during the dry season, from November to February.
Finally, various craft fairs, concerts and other cultural, recreational and economic events also take place throughout the year, you will find them in the cultural agenda of the Tourist Office below
