Description

FOUMBAN CRAFT VILLAGE

Located 1 km from downtown Foumban, the artisanal district known as “Njiyuom” is a showcase for the artistic genius of the Bamoun people. It is accessed from the town center via an entrance called “Rue des Artisans”. On both sides of this alley, an intense and diversified craft activity is developing and can be discovered in small traditional stalls that serve as both workshops and exhibition galleries. In a friendly atmosphere, artisans get down to work in a variety of fields, including sculpture, embroidery, foundry and, in particular, the “procédé de la cire perdue”. This is a traditional technique for melting and molding metal, mainly copper.
